Building relationships that make the difference

Groups

At Directions we feel passionate about delivering an experience of belonging, friendship and acceptance to people with a disability, and believe that this is imperative to leading an emotionally satisfying and meaningful life. We aim to deliver this through our Group services, which currently operate across a number of locations, catering for a vast range of needs and abilities. Our main areas of focus are social groups and life skills development groups. Directions also hosts the long standing Kenwick Social disco.

Kenwick Social

The Kenwick Social is a long standing community event for people with a disability of all ages and abilities. There is a different theme every month and $10 entry includes entertainment by Dan’s Music, a light supper and soft drink. Each month has a theme and the hall is decorated – dressing up is encouraged!

Carers and family can come along for free. People with disability are involved in organising and running the event, furthering our aim for all Directions events to be ‘by the people, for the people!’

WHERE?  Kenwick Community Facilty, 231 Brixton St, Kenwick, 6107
WHEN?  1st Friday of the month (excluding January) 6.30pm-8.30pm

  • Mandurah

Teenspirit is a dynamic social group that provides and promotes a safe environment for social exploration and development, whilst having fun!

Teenspirit has been running in Maddington for almost 20 years and has been a staple in many young people’s lives.

Teenspirit runs on Saturday’s during the term and weekdays during school holidays.

Friday night social groups

  • Maddington 18+
  • Young Adults Group North

These groups provide a space where adults can come together for meaningful interaction and create long lasting friendships, whilst developing their social skill set further.

The activities are chosen by the group so they have autonomy over their own outings.

We place emphasis on the importance of regular attendance so that friendships are formed, however individuals can choose activities of interest.

Life Skills Development Groups

  • Maddington
  • Claremont

At Directions we are passionate about empowering people with a disability to work towards achieving their goals. This group gives ownership to young adults and allows each individual to have their say, supporting them every step of the way.

These groups are aimed at young adults and are focused around skills development. They encompass Directions’ person centred model, tailoring the programs to suit the needs of every individual to progress to the next stage of their life.

Throughout all that we do we promote living a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Theses program can develop a whole range of skills in a fun environment whilst building lifelong friendships, to name a few:

  • Personal safety
  • Transport training
  • Money management
  • Personal development
  • Meal planning and food preparation
  • Practical skills e.g. grocery shopping, washing up, vacuuming
