Group programs

At Directions we feel that the experience of belonging, friendship and acceptance is important and essential to people with a disability.

These rights are imperative when it comes to leading a fulfilling, emotionally satisfying and meaningful life, and it is our aim to make them a reality. With this in mind our group services operate across various locations, catering for a vast range of needs and abilities. Our main focus is on social groups and life skills development groups.

Directions runs four group programs:

Social Spirit

Over 35s

For individuals over over 35, Social Spirit is a centre-based program that also includes activities in the community. Focussed on social skills development, Social Spirit provides a safe and supportive environment where individuals can build confidence and develop valuable friendships.

Life Skills

School Leavers | 10 Weeks | Twice a Week | Maddington and Claremont

Family is everything

Directions’ Life Skills group empowers young people with disability who have recently finished school, to build confidence and develop important life-skills. The group encourages its members to take ownership of their lives, empowering them to stand up for themselves while supporting them every step of the way.

Promoting living a healthy, balanced lifestyle, Life Skills is tailored to suit the needs of ours individuals to help them transition to adult life. The 10-week program is built on individual goals and delivered in a group setting to develop social skills and encourage lasting friendships.

Teen Spirit

13-18 & Over 18 | 10 Weeks | Friday Night’s and Saturday’s (school term) & Weekdays (school holidays) | Maddington.

Teen Spirit is a dynamic social group that provides and promotes a safe environment for social exploration and development, whilst having fun! The group has been running in Maddington for more than 20 years and has been a staple in many young people’s lives.

Run over 10 weeks, participants enjoy social outings and activities in community and group settings. Teen Spirit is all about building friendships and having fun.

The best part is that group members decide what they want to do and where they want to go. Past outings have included a trip to Adventure Word, ten-pin bowling, fishing, visiting Peel Zoo, gaming and a trip to Rottnest Island.
