Building relationships that make the difference

NDIS Update

National Disability Insurance Scheme

MEDIA RELEASE Date: 12/12/2017

The Commonwealth and Western Australian governments today announced a new bilateral agreement which will see WA join the nationally-delivered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

This announcement means the Bilateral Agreement signed in January 2017 by the previous Western Australian Government for a State-delivered NDIS (the WA NDIS) will be replaced by a new agreement and transition will be carried out in a planned, phased approach.

The announcement offers certainty to Western Australians with disability, their families and carers on the future of the NDIS in the State.

From 1 July 2018, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will assume responsibility for the delivery of the NDIS in Western Australia. The NDIS will continue to be implemented on a geographic basis by NDIA and will be fully rolled out across WA by 2020.

All current participants in the WA NDIS will transfer to the nationally delivered Scheme from April 2018 until 31 December 2018.

A priority for both governments is to ensure a smooth transition for people with disability, their families and carers, as well as service providers and staff delivering the NDIS during this transition phase.
